For Design Days Dubai 2014, Southern Guild presents a curated collection of groundbreaking work by a diverse group of artists and designers working across many disciplines. Handcrafted and largely inspired by nature, the pieces are imbued with their markers’ personal narratives and surrounding, and reflect their complex socio-political milieu.

They include iconic works such as Porky Hefer’s Bettina Esca, a leather-clad seating pod inspired by the deep-sea angler fish; the Docks Table, ceramicist Andile Dyalvane’s reflection on his rapidly changing urban landscape; Bronze Age’s Num Num Table standing on giant bronze thorns; the elegant Haywire Imbuia chandelier by David Krynauw; Dokter and Misses’ Kassena Server Slate, made of painted pink Beech; Gregor Jenkin’s faceted Egret Table; John Vogel’s Bloom and Love Me, Love Me Not tables.

Other artists with pieces on the stand include blacksmith Conrad Hicks, master carpenters Meyer von Williegh and Pierre Cronje, Laurie Wiid van Heerden, expert rug maker Paco Pakdoust in collaboration with painter John Murray, Joe Paine, Brett Murray, Guy du Toit, Michaella Jane van Vuuren, ceramicist Christina Bryer, David Ross, Givan Lötz, Pieter Henning, glassblower Guido van Besouw and sculptor Remed.
