Southern Guild joins forces with ArcelorMittal South Africa to exhibit South Africa’s most significant collectible design at Everard Read Gallery in Johannesburg. Here, it introduces new work from over 100 of the country’s top artists, designers and architects, including Conrad Botes, Brett Murray, Haldane Martin, Athi-Patra Ruga, Michael McGarry, Egg, Tonic, Adriaan Hugo, Conrad Hicks, Ardmore, James Mudge, Silvio Rech, Pierre Swanepoel and many other luminaries.
Exciting collaborations between artists and producers have led to unique limited-edition pieces that range from a painting of a reclining nude by artist Kerri Evans reworked into a statement rug by Paco, to an evocative heritage piece that transfers a landscape by Phillemon Hlungwani onto a Pierre Cronje table, as well as a steel bench by graffiti artist Atang Tshikare and designer Laurie Wiid van Heerden. A much anticipated collaboration between artist William Kentridge and acclaimed furniture designer Gregor Jenkin is another big reveal. Southern Guild also welcomes a new element to its collection: work by South African ceramic artists, including Astrid Dahl and Michaella Janse van Vuuren.
To further broaden awareness of local design, Everard Read is hosting a series of interactive events, including the Southern Guild Talks and guided gallery tours.
