Southern Guild showcases its most extensive collection of contemporary African design to date at the launch of the Museum of African Design (MOAD) in Johannesburg. The collection includes work by more than 100 local designers, both established and emerging and from across design disciplines. It is fitting that a globally respected African design platform such as Southern Guild should curate the inaugural exhibition of the first museum dedicated solely to African design. It brings together new pieces as well as iconic work from the Southern Guild collection produced over the past four years.

As the largest, most important contemporary design exhibition ever presented in South Africa, the show offers a comprehensive and detailed viewpoint on the country’s design identity through more than 200 pieces ranging from furniture and objets d’art to textiles, jewellery and ceramics. World-renowned architect David Adjaye is the guest of honour at the opening event, which also hosts the second annual Southern Guild Design Foundation Awards.
