Southern Guild’s hosting of the annual GUILD Design Fair will now be transitioning into a year-round, permanent space called GUILD Silo. This comes as the newly launched holding company, The Guild Group, announced its tenure of a new flagship location at the V&A Waterfront Silo District. The new 400-square-metre space promises a year-round experience in the ethos of GUILD, where both Southern Guild exhibitions and visiting shows will be hosted, as well as a curated retail offering and an exciting events programme. GUILD Silo is due to open in May 2017, marking an exciting new era for The Guild Group, who have spearheaded the local design industry – from exhibiting and promoting, to retailing, exporting, developing and advising. The move means The Guild Group can create a home where it’s able to bring together in one space everything for which it stands and towards which it has been working for more than a decade. GUILD Silo will allow the company to continue elevating the collectible design category in Africa, while working on partnerships with international galleries, fairs and design museums, exposing Cape Town residents and visitors to never-before-seen local and international work. Also forming part of the district is the globally anticipated Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa).
Southern Guild’s Woodstock gallery will continue to function as an exhibition space, hosting complementary design programmes, while its recently launched Johannesburg venue, in collaboration with art gallery WHATIFTHEWORLD, breaks new ground in co-exhibiting African art and design.
