Bold and emblazoned with character, the ceramic work of Madoda Fani carries a dramatically unique sensibility, with his smoke-fired vessels following a contemporary approach to the age-old medium. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Madoda’s curvaceous, coiled forms echo those found in nature, while the detailed hand-carved and burnished surfaces reference insect forms and cattle – the elegant and refined patterns speaking of Madoda’s lifelong fascinations and his respect for cultural rituals. Idangatye, meaning ‘flame’ in Xhosa, premieres new work that presents Madoda’s development and growth as a uniquely talented artist and sculptor.
Madoda has shown with Southern Guild at Design Miami, and his work has been selected as part of the gallery’s presentation at the annual Christie’s design auction 2017.
