Jan Bekker is the founder of Sirkel Jewellery Design, which brings to life themes of mortality, the intricacies of social behaviour, the intrinsic power of objects and a simple love for pure aesthetic excellence. Jan began making jewellery at the age of 16, having attended the National School of the Arts. After school he studied Jewellery Design and Manufacture at WITS Technicon, and gained experience at a manufacturing jeweller before founding Sirkel in 2005. At the Sirkel studio, pieces are handcrafted in precious metals with precious stones, using a combination of highly skilled techniques such as carving, hand-engraving and stone-setting. This all culminates in wearable sculptural treasures.
