Renowned ceramicist, Majolandile ‘Andile’ Dyalvane, born in Qobo-Qobo, a small village in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, aims to record the rapid environmental changes that take place in Woodstock, Cape Town, with his studio based in the heart of the city’s Design District. Dyalvane, co-founder of Imiso Ceramics, prides himself on his heritage and presents it through his work at every opportunity. He believes that clay gives him the ability to create something beautiful, valuable and useful using the most basic elements. His pieces retain an integrity that comes from his strong connection to the earth. Dyalvane is the recipient of the 2014 Southern Guild Design Foundation Icon Award, and has earned himself residencies in various cities around the world, as well as a prestigious solo exhibition at Friedman Benda in New York City in 2016.
